Heathrow rail engineering works: 16 & 17 November

Due to planned engineering works, there will be no Heathrow Express or Elizabeth line services to or from Heathrow on Saturday 16 November and Sunday 17 November.

Piccadilly line services will be running as normal on both days.

Passengers should plan their journeys before travelling, and allow for additional time where necessary as trains that are running will be much busier than normal.

Airlines and routes, Travel tips,
The great British summer can sadly be a bit of a disappointment. The long anticipated wait for some summer sun is often met with grey clouds and plummeting temperatures. All hope isn’t lost, though, as here is a list of sun-filled destinations you can reach in less than 3 hours direct from Heathrow.

Majorca, Spain 🇪🇸

Flight time approx. 2 hours 30 minutes ✈️
Temperatures reaching as high as 29 °C during the summer ☀️

This Spanish Island is a real hit with Brits looking for some summer sun without the long-haul flight. The gorgeous coastline and attractive turquoise waters are a great way to enjoy and soak up the Spanish sun all day long.

Majorca is full of Spanish character and charm. Its bays and coves are worth exploring, as are stunning pine forests that make being outdoors a real treat.

It is one of the most popular and vibrant Balearic Islands, so it's no wonder that a huge number of tourists flock there every summer for some much-needed sun. The island is filled with hotel resorts, historic towns, attractions, vibrant nightlife, and delicious local cuisine for visitors to indulge in and make the most of their time on this beautiful island. The Mediterranean climate means long sunny days are guaranteed during peak season.

Sardinia, Italy 🇮🇹

Flight time approx. 2 hours 30 minutes  ✈️
Temperatures reaching as high as 31 °C during the summer ☀️

Nothing beats the taste of Italy during sunny summer months, and with it being less than a 3 hour flight away, Sardinia is the perfect short-haul destination to visit. Sitting off the West Coast of Italy, it is the second largest island in the Mediterranean.

The coastline of Sardinia stretches well over thousands of miles, providing holiday-goes with plenty of gorgeous beaches to soak up some glorious rays of sunshine.

Depending on your budget, Costa Smeralda has loads of five-star luxury resorts to choose from. However, if you’re after something more cheap and cheerful, head over to San Teodoro, which has some great-value resorts along the turquoise coastline with a warm and welcoming vibe.

Algarve, Portugal 🇵🇹

Flight time approx. 2 hours 45 minutes  ✈️
Temperatures reaching as high as 30 °C during the summer ☀️

One of the most popular beach destinations for some summer sun amongst UK travellers is the Algarve in Portugal. The short flight time combined with the stunning sun, sea and sand is a recipe for a perfect summer holiday.

The Algarve has various areas depending on what you’re looking for. Albufeira, located in the southern region of the island, is popular among travellers due to its golden beaches and array of bars and restaurants.

Another great and popular option is Vilamoura, home to a charming marina lined with shops and restaurants. It is also within walking distance of some of Portugal’s best beaches.

Tunis, Tunisia 🇹🇳

Flight time approx. 2 hours 45 minutes  ✈️
Temperatures reaching as high as 33 °C during the summer ☀️

A country that may not come to mind as much as the above destinations is beautiful Tunisia. But with a short flight time and many sights on offer, it is a great place to catch some rays this summer.

Tunisia has impressive Roman ruins, striking architecture, incredible views, and beautifully charming medinas. It is also located on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, so you’re guaranteed some gorgeous blue waters to splash into and lovely summer weather.

One of the best things about Tunisia is that it isn’t swarming with tourists, so several sights are easier to visit, and beaches aren’t as overcrowded as other popular destinations in Europe.
