When it comes to historic culture and romantic charm, you will find them in abundance in the streets of Florence. The birthplace of the Renaissance, which inspired great artists like Michelangelo, Florence is a hotspot for art, charm, and character. There is so much to see within the stunning streets of this Italian jewel, but here are a few of the absolute must-see places.
There are so many spots in Florence that offer the most stunning panoramic views, which allow you to see the city in all its glory.
If you want to start your trip on a high (literally), then pay a visit to Piazzale Michaelangelo for an incredible view of the city. The best part is it is completely free to visit, and it provides one of the most scenic views of Florence. Make sure to go during golden hour for a particularly spectacular view.
Another place to go for a panoramic view of the city is the Piazza del Duomo, where you can climb to the top of the famous dome in only 463 steps. It may seem like a lot of hard work and far too much cardio on holiday, but it is well worth it when you take in that gorgeous view. It is a good idea to pre-book your desired time slot before getting there to avoid long queues.
Florence is lined with incredible art museums and galleries that allow you to explore famous works from some of the most notable Italian artists.
An absolute must-visit is the Uffizi Gallery which showcases pieces from Leonardo Da Vinci and Michaelangelo, as well as several other Italian artists. The gallery first opened in the 16th Century and most of the pieces were gifted after the Medici family lost its ruling power. Visitors will be able to view ‘The Birth of Venus’ by Sandro Botticelli, the gallery’s most prominent piece of art.
The Galleria dell’Accademia is another beautiful art museum in central Florence. It is home to Michaelangelo’s famous David sculpture and holds several other pieces from other Florentine artists’ pieces.
Florence is one of those places where simply walking through the cobbled roads and discovering the hidden alleyways is a treat. There is so much to see and discover, from the gorgeous nature to the Italian-styled buildings filled with character.
You are sure to hit a few Piazzas in your exploration (a town square) that are always brimming with buzz and fun entertainment. One of the famous ones in Florence is the Piazza della Signora which has a W-shaped square, a notable focal point of the Florentine Republic.
If you would like to take in some nature and step out of the busy city during your travels, then take a trip to the Boboli Gardens. The historic park is a classic Italian garden that offers stunning and serene views. It was first opened to the public in the late 1700’s and is a real Florentine treat for those looking for some natural beauty.
