Stocking up on tasty Easter eggs is one of the best things about the season, but it would be a real crack-tastrophe if they were to get ruined or smashed into pieces during your travels. Here are some tips on the do’s and don’ts of travelling with Easter eggs...

1.  Don’t pack hollow Easter eggs

If you are considering flying some eggs across the world, then it is advised to take chocolate or crème filled ones, as hollow ones are prone to cracking into a million pieces when transported in baggage.

2.  Do take Easter eggs out of their boxes

Nothing is worse than taking up unnecessary space in your bags, especially when packing efficiently! So, if you are going to risk it and take your eggs in your bags, then it’s worth removing them from their packaging and wrapping them up in soft layers. This will save you some space and lower the damage done to your delicious eggs.

3.  Don’t take crème filled eggs through security

Yep, that’s right. You very well may be stopped during security checks if you pack crème filled eggs in your hand luggage as they may be considered a risk under the 100ml liquid rule.

4.  Do consider buying Easter eggs at your destination

Easter is celebrated all over the world, so chances are wherever you’re travelling to will sell an array of chocolatey treats. So, it may be worth saving yourself the hassle of packing and taking your Easter eggs from home, and instead indulging in chocolate at your given destination. You may even discover new delightful delicacies!  

A great way to reduce the chance of getting stressed before travelling is by planning ahead and arriving at Heathrow in good time before your flight.

Over the busier Easter period, we recommend passengers arrive at the airport to check in 2 hours before a short-haul flight and 3 hours before a long-haul flight.

We do ask people not to turn up significantly early for their flight, as this can cause unnecessary congestion in the airport. And to please make sure all your travel documents are up to date before you arrive.

During school holidays, Easter included, parents should look out for the Kids Eat Free* offer. It’s a simple concept: when an adult chooses an item from the main menu your kids can eat for free. With great restaurants to choose from and a wide range of dishes, they'll be spoilt for choice.

A lot of Heathrow restaurants will also be offering Easter special menus and if you’re in a hurry you can pre-order food and drink from selected restaurants via the Heathrow app (see below). It'll save you time queueing, which means more time to enjoy yourself.

The last thing you want to do after a flight is stand in an extra long queue to get through the magic gates of security that’ll lead you to your luggage.

Reduce queue times significantly by using the egg-xtra efficient E-gates that are available for anyone with an electronic passport. Simply scan your passport through the machine and allow the system to match your face to the chip in your passport.
