New routes coming this summer

Here at Heathrow, we want to make the rest of the world as accessible as possible, which is why we are introducing an increase in flights with various airlines, both old and new. Take a look at the new and more frequent routes coming to Heathrow this summer, allowing you to explore even more beautiful countries worldwide. 

British Airways

BA will be starting a new route to Abu Dhabi on the 20^th of April, allowing you to explore the Middle Eastern jewel easier than ever.

The Corniche - one of the best ways to enjoy a scenic day in Abu Dhabi is by strolling down the iconic 8-km stretch of waterfront. You can take advantage of the amazing beach activities down the manicured paths and cool off by taking a dip in the calm waters.

Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque – this is one of the must-see landmarks in the UAE capital. The massive structure is made up of 82 domes and towering marinates, all in white marble for a truly striking scene. It was completed in 2007 and named in honour of the country’s late president, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Ferrari World – located on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island, visiting Ferrari World should be on anyone’s bucket list who is a massive fan of the Italian supercar maker. The large indoor theme park is plastered with the famous Prancing Horse logo and is home to the ‘fastest in the world’ rollercoaster.

BA will also be flying to Kos and Izmir, both launching on the 18^th of May and brand new routes to London Heathrow. These European hot spots are ideal for a quick summer break to soak up some much-needed sun.

Kos is home to stunning sandy and blue-water beaches that offer a relaxing holiday where you can unwind and get some much-needed vitamin D in peace.  

Tigaki Beach - a very well-kept beach with plenty of sunbeds for a comfortable visit.

Agios Stefanos Beach – you can ring a bell when you arrive to climb to the top of the island on a mountain goat track.

Therma Beach – otherwise known as Bubble Beach, you can swim in volcanic heated hot springs!

Located on Turkey’s Aegean coast, Izmir is a quaint city filled with cultural spots reflecting Turkey’s warmth and welcoming nature.

Kemeralti Market – if you’re a sucker for seafood, then this is a must-visit, as it is home to several good seafood restaurants. Visitors can also take advantage of the antiques and elegant shops in the buzzing area.

Saat Kulesi (Clock Tower) – first built in 1901, the elegant monument stands proudly in Konak Square, adding visual excellence. It is now an important symbol of the city of Izmir and a must-see. 

Virgin Atlantic

Explore more of India and its incredible sights, with Virgin Atlantic launching a new route to Bangalore on the 31^st of March.

ISKCON Temple Bangalore – the ISKCON Sri Radha Krishna temple is a cultural complex that hosts a number of temples dedicated to several Deities.

Wonderla Bengaluru – this is one for absolute thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies that like to get their hearts pumping on holiday. The massive amusement park in Bangalore is home to over 60 rides, spanning over a whopping 82 acres and offering a spectacular range of entertainment.

Lalbagh Botanical Gardens – if you’re a sucker for nature, then Lalbagh botanical gardens will be an absolute treat to visit, with over 96 acres of landscaped terrain to explore. 

One of the best family destinations is Orlando, Florida, with its dozens of theme parks that provide fun and excitement for the whole family. Virgin Atlantic will increase its daily flights there, meaning you can plan a summer family holiday without the stress.

Universal Studios Florida – satisfy all your movie buff desires with an incredible trip to Universal Studios Florida and watch your heroes come alive beyond the big screen!

Walt Disney World Resort – visit one of the most magical places on earth and create memories as a family that you will cherish for a lifetime. You can spend as many days as you like exploring the world-class four theme parks and splashing around the two water parks, for some added fun. SeaWorld - is an incredible, immersive aquatic experience that will leave you in awe of the sea and everything that inhabits it. SeaWorld Orlando is home to the fastest, longest, and tallest rollercoaster, Mako, named after one of the ocean’s fastest sharks. There are several other exciting experiences to enjoy in this family-friendly place. 

Vueling

Vueling is making a mighty return to London Heathrow from 7^th of April, making it easier than ever to enjoy a few days away in Europe. Whether it’s soaking up some Spanish sun or falling in love with some Parisian pleasures, you can get there in no time, directly from Heathrow.

Barcelona is a sensational Spanish metropolis that offers everything from wonderful cultural spots to historical architecture, as well as gorgeous beaches and all-year-round sunshine.

Basilica de la Sagrada Familia – this historic church is devoted solely to the Holy Family. It is known as one of Antoni Gaudi’s most famous works and is an iconic piece of infrastructure in the city. It is most famously known for being under construction since 1882, with donations funding the works. You can get an amazing panoramic view of the city by taking the lift to the top of the towers and marvelling at the ornate architecture.

Gothic Quarter – the incredible architecture doesn’t end there, as the legendary Gothic Quarter in Barcelona is home to some of the city’s most important politic buildings and incredible Gothic architecture. Taking a stroll through this historic centre of medieval Barcelona is a must.

Palace of Catalan Music – the Palau is an iconic symbol of modernistic architecture in downtown Barcelona. It is one of the most recommended tourist attractions in the city as it encompasses the beauty of Barcelona in a contemporary way. The historical building was also declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 and offers an unbeatable magical experience.

Simply strolling through the gorgeous streets of Paris is enough to be swept away by its charm and magic. Fly directly from London Heathrow to Paris Orly Airport in no time.

Eiffel Tower – this colossal landmark was first completed in 1889 and has since become the most famous symbol of Paris, attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists to marvel at its architectural splendour.

Arc de Triomph — standing proudly on the Western end of the Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomph is a major landmark in Paris, combining commemorative and symbolic significance. You can visit an exhibition portraying the landmark's history and explaining its symbolic importance. The terrace is a great place to catch some superb city views day and night.

Basilique du Sacre-Coeur de Montmartre – located in Paris’ famous Montmartre, this 19th-century basilica was built by the French government after the Franco-Prussian War. The steps leading up to the large medieval-looking domed landmark are an iconic place to sit and soak in the gorgeous views of the city.

Aegean Airlines

The capital of Greece is a European hotspot for travellers looking for some Mediterranean sun and historic cultural landmarks to explore. You will be spoilt for choice with Aegean Airlines increasing their frequency to four daily flights to Athens from Heathrow.

Acropolis – the ancient citadel towers over the city and is one of the main sites to visit in all of Athen. It was built in the fifth century B.C. and hosts some of the most impressive ancient artifacts, buildings and ruins to wonder and explore.

Panathenaic Stadium – this is the site of the first modern Olympic games back in 1896 and remains the starting point of the Olympic flame torch relay. The stadium dates back to the 4^th century B.C. and is made entirely of white marble.

Plaka – located at the foothills of the Acropolis, is the beautiful neighbourhood of Plaka. Wander through narrow cobblestone alleys and find quaint shops selling souvenirs, jewellery, clothes, and ceramics.
