Heathrow rail engineering works: 16 & 17 November

Due to planned engineering works, there will be no Heathrow Express or Elizabeth line services to or from Heathrow on Saturday 16 November and Sunday 17 November.

Piccadilly line services will be running as normal on both days.


Passengers should plan their journeys before travelling, and allow for additional time where necessary as trains that are running will be much busier than normal.

Soak in the stunning coastline of the Island

The coastline of Kos is breathtaking and one of the most spectacular sights on the Island. One of the best ways to really soak it up and make the most of it is by taking a boat trip along the coast. This gives you the chance to take in the turquoise waters and explore hidden coves and sea caves.

A coastal boat trip is a great way to spend a day in Kos as you can jump off to swim and snorkel in the clear waters or relax on deck for a spot of sunbathing whilst surrounded by stunning scenery.

You can also make a day of it by going on additional excursions to some of the surrounding islands, such as Kalymnos, Nisyros and Pserimos. The islands aren’t too far from Kos by boat and have an array of pretty harbours and mountainous villages to discover.

Uncover ancient artifacts at Asklepieion

If you’re a bit of a history buff or would like to learn more about some ancient Greek civilisation, then a visit to the Asklepieion is a must. It is an iconic medical centre that is named after the Greek god of healing and known to be the birthplace of medicine.

It dates all the way back to the 3rd century BC and is a great testament to historic innovations in the world of medical practices. It is a great place to visit that shows the cultural side of ancient Greek civilisation and witness how it has evolved over the years.

The Asklepieion ruins are located near Kos Town and can be found at the top of a pine-forested hill in the area. You can make a real day of it by exploring each level up the hill and uncovering the various Roman baths and temples along the way.

Wander through the whimsical Old Town

Kos Old Town is made up of the most charming streets that are lined with an array of local shops and restaurants for an authentic taste of Greek culture. It is a great place to go if you want some delicious Greek cuisine with a spot of lunch in the main square.

It’s hard not to fall in love with the beautiful and colourful historic homes that are nestled between the restaurants and shops on the small winding streets of the Old Town. It is a treat for your senses as you take in the contrasting and complimenting vibrant tones of colour.

You can start your day of exploration at Eleftherias Central Square, where the Old Town begins, and go on from there to discover the rest of this pretty playground.

Cast your eyes on the mosaics at Casa Romana

Another one for the history buffs, the gorgeously restored Roman villa is home to the remains of mosaics, statues, and pools on every corner. It is a beautiful sight for those who want to be transported to ancient Greece and travel back in time.

There are a total of 36 rooms and three atriums that make up the iconic Casa Romana, with each section showcasing the notable architectural charm of the era. You can reach each room by wandering through the passageways of the manor, admiring the well-preserved detailed designs as you walk through.
