Heathrow rail engineering works: 16 & 17 November

Due to planned engineering works, there will be no Heathrow Express or Elizabeth line services to or from Heathrow on Saturday 16 November and Sunday 17 November.

Piccadilly line services will be running as normal on both days.


Passengers should plan their journeys before travelling, and allow for additional time where necessary as trains that are running will be much busier than normal.

Have a pint at the Qingdao Beer Festival

One of the most famous things about Qingdao that put it on the map is its beer. In fact, there is an annual Qingdao International Beer Festival that takes place on the second week of August, and lasts for about 2 weeks. So, if you are a beer fan, then this is the ideal destination for you. Here are some of the best places to visit to really enjoy the beer festival:

Qingdao Beer Museum is a distinct two-story red building and is built on the site of the German Beer Company Qingdao Branch. You will learn all about the 100 year history of Qingdao beer from past to present. You will also get to see the old brewery machine and can take a collection of old Qingdao beer packaging as a special souvenir.

One of the main places to really immerse yourself in the Qingdao International Beer Festival and enjoy the festivities is Golden Beach. There is a happy atmosphere and a lot of great outdoor activities during the day, and at night they perform a dazzling fireworks and music show. Golden Beach is a popular place to visit in Qingdao with its crisp golden and clean blue sea.

Experience Qingdao in its legendary landmarks

Qingdao has loads of breathtaking landmarks that are simply unmissable if you are planning a trip to this gorgeous seaside city. The most famous ones that most tourists pay a visit to are May Fourth Square and Zhanqiao Pier, as they really showcase the beauty of Qingdao in all its glory.

Zhanqiao Bridge was built in 1891 and is consdiered a symbol of Qingdao. The 440 meter long strip stretches well into the sea with a distinctive Chinese style ‘Huilan Pagoda’ at the end of the pier. Zhanqiao Pier is now viewed as a symbol of Qingdao with its fame increasing by being placed on bottle labels and on the front of cans of Tsingdao Brewery. The pier is a great place to spend a lovely and relaxing day out, filled with lovely scenery.

May Fourth Square was built in Qingdao at the end of the 1990s and is now the central business district in the eastern seaside square. The square is home to a spectacular and unique sculpture called The Winds of May. The bright red colour of the sculpture represents a permanent burning flame to symbolise Qingdao’s prosperous future.

Take in breathtaking views at Laoshan Mountain

Laoshan Mountain offers some of the best natural landscapes in Qingdao with spectacular views of the rest of the city. It is a Taoist site with several Taoist temples dotted all around it, as well as striking canyons and green tea terraces.

The largest Taoist temple in the area is Taiqing Temple, otherwise known as the Temple of Supreme Purity. Laoshan Mountain is one of the best places to learn more about Taoist culture and immerse yourself in some of the history of the area.

It is perfectly located on Yellow Sea’s shore, allowing you to indulge in the incredible views of the mountain and sea all in one go. It offers one of the best panoramic views of the entire city and is a great day out for exploration and a fantastic day of hiking.
