At Heathrow, we’re dedicated to making all airport operational vehicles zero-emission or biofuel-powered by 2030. This encompasses all 7,000+ vehicles that move around the airport daily.
More than 95% of Heathrow owned or operated vehicles are already zero emission or use biofuel. We’ve also increased our biodiesel supply to encourage the 76,000 Team Heathrow colleagues from 320+ businesses to follow suit.
In 2025, Heathrow will publish a robust ULEZ policy for airside operational vehicles that raises the minimum standards for air quality, while accelerating the transition to ZEVs.
In 2024, Heathrow opened its first ultra-rapid charging hub at Terminal 2, allowing vehicles to charge up to 80% in under 30 minutes. This marks a major advance in the airport's EV infrastructure. It's the first of eight hubs planned to open over the next three years.
Established in ~2006 as part of the Heathrow Air Quality Action Plan, the CVP aims to reduce emissions from ground vehicles operating in and around the airport. Through twice-yearly events, the CVP focuses on promoting the transition to Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) by sharing best practices from within and outside of aviation, promoting technology innovation that aligns with Heathrow’s ZEV strategy, and focusing on the behavioural changes required to leverage the carbon benefits.
Running every two months, the GVET is a forum for Team Heathrow to learn more about the progress being made against Goal 7 - Airport Vehicle activities.
